It takes almost no force to defeat the magazine release spring. The only reason I can see to use force to insert a magazine is in the event the slide is closed so you're able to defeat the magazine spring as the top round makes contact with the slide. On a closed slide I just "push with speed" and apply pressure as necessary to seat the mag.
